Inspections, straight
- Do you do North Carolina state inspections?
- Yes. North Carolina requires an annual safety inspection to renew a registration, and the inspection has to be done within 90 days of the renewal.
- Does my vehicle need an emissions test in Charlotte?
- Mecklenburg County is one of the North Carolina counties that requires an emissions inspection along with the safety inspection. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 8,500 pounds need only the safety inspection.
- What happens if I miss my inspection?
- The DMV blocks your registration renewal until the vehicle passes inspection, so it is worth getting in before the sticker runs out.
- Can you inspect a car I am buying from somebody else?
- Yes. A pre-purchase inspection on a private-party car is one of the cheapest ways to avoid a very expensive mistake.
